Travel Manila to Hong Kong

The post here and all my future posts are just to share the experience of my mom using her mobility scooter in touring different places. So other people travelling with their mobility scooter will have an idea of the accessibility in the areas that we visit.

So for our first adventure - Hong Kong!

This is the first time that we are travelling outside the country with a mobility scooter. Not sure what to expect, but things somehow turned out well.

Our flight was scheduled to leave at 8:05am. We booked for business class in Philippine Airlines. During check in we asked if my mom can use her mobility scooter before boarding. Luckily, she was allowed and the mob-scooter will just be checked-in at the boarding gate. Check in of the mob-scooter is free. No additional baggage allowance needed.

Since we arrived a bit early, we were able to enjoy the newly renovated lounge of PAL.

They do not have any handicap toilet in the lounge, so we just fit the mob-scooter at the largest stall available. Cannot close the door, but since not much people were using at the moment, so it is ok.

Aisle chair was provided so my mom can transfer to the plane seat and we are on our way.

Weather in hong kong was not good at that time, so flight actually got delayed. We were able to fly an hour after but due to the strong winds in hong kong, we were not able to land and went back to manila.

Being in business class and having a disabled passenger, we were given priority for rebooking when we landed. We were rebooked to fly again on the next flight to hong kong. Finally, we were able to arrive around 7:30pm.

Priority was also given in immigration upon arrival. Wheelchair was also provided since the mob-scooter was can only be retrieved during the claiming of luggage.

When I was doing my research on possible transportation for my mom, I was able to find DiamondTaxi in hongkong that provides special facilities for the disabled. So I booked them for our hotel transfers.
Wind was strong when we arrived, but we were able to manage.

The taxi has a built in ramp and wheelchair secure lock. So during transit, the mob-scooter will stay in place. Driver was also very helpful. So transfers from airport to hotel using Diamond Taxi was convenient enough for mob-scooter travelers.

We checked in at Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel. When we arrived, I do not have any idea on their handicapped facilities because I was not able to find any information in my research. But good thing they have facilities like the lift below.
Access to their lobby and elevator is a few steps down. But they have lifts like this to accommodate handicapped guests.

They do not have any handicap rooms. And since we arrived around 9:30pm in the hotel, most rooms are already occupied. We booked for superior rooms, it was quite small. Since they do not have any handicap rooms, the receptionist said she can transfer us to a deluxe room for the next day to accommodate my mom's situation. So we just agreed to that.

After a long day, finally we got our room for the night. Time to rest.

We visited these places during our stay:

Day 1: Tsim Sha Tsui / Mongkok
Day 2: Hong Kong Disneyland
Day 3: Marco Polo Hong Kong Shopping Arcade / Nathan Road

Finally, its time to go home.
